Pomona College was set up as "a school of the New England sort" for the West Coast in 1887. In the mid-1920s, the College needed to choose whether to keep itself a little school or venture into a vast college. Rather, Pomona aided make The Claremont Colleges consortium, of which Claremont McKenna College (#24) is likewise a part.
